Media Streaming
The use of Streaming media is becoming a mainstream communications tool in the broadcast industry. It has transformed the Internet, bringing static web pages to life and opening the door to a vibrant, interactive and rewarding online experience.
Today, Internet users spend 46% more time (or 1.4 more hours per day) viewing online media than watching TV (source: AdAge.com). In fact, the number of video streams increased 80.7 percent in 2004, for a total of 14.2 billion streams, according to AccuStream iMedia Research.
The AccuStream iMedia Research report also includes figures for increased online radio use. The average "aggregate tuning hours per month" in 2004 was 178.9 million, up 75.9 percent over the 101.7 million hours per month measured for 2003. AccuStream believes growth in online radio use will trend ahead of video in 2005, growing 60 percent year over year.
AccuStream iMedia Research also predicts ad revenue for online video will reach $321 million this year, up 75 percent from 2004. Gross ad billings for streaming radio in 2005 are forecast at $22 million, an 82 percent increase over 2004. Next year, Accustream expects gross ad billings for both streaming video and radio to reach $504 million, a 47 percent rise.
